Project Overview (September to October)

This project will see the development of a new unit of competency within the DEF Defence Training Package to support the Defence sector’s capability in testing and evaluating explosive ordnance. This project has been identified in collaboration with the Department of Defence to support the safe testing of explosive ordnance and safeguard the wellbeing of its personnel within this capability.

Initial engagements with subject-matter experts and stakeholders in the Defence sector have identified the technical components and requirements of this specialised unit of competency.

Public Skills Australia acknowledges the use of explosive ordnance units within the mining industry-sector and will engage with the Mining and Automotive Skills Alliance (AUSMASA), to identify relevant organisations for consultation. Public Skills Australia will work closely with the Australian Defence College to support the tri-service accreditation of Australian Defence Force staff and ensure the new unit of competency is effectively implemented.

Technical Committee

Engagement with the Defence sector is currently taking place. In accordance with the Training Package Products Development and Endorsement Process Policy, a Technical Committee has been stood up to provide advice on amendments to the DEF Defence Explosive Ordnance qualifications. The Technical Committee will provide expert advice, grounded in evidence to assist in the design and development of the training products.
